Water Treatment Facility Field Trips (3rd-12th grade)

You and your students can learn more about the sources of our precious Southern California water supply, the importance of water wise stewardship and about West Basin water conservation and sustainability programs that can beneifit your student families.  A complimentary school bus is provided for public and private schools located in the West Basin service area.  Check this school list for your eligibility.

Field trips to the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility in El Segundo focus on recycled water technology and recyled water use in the community. This field trip serves 3rd-12th grade students.  Click on the below links for further program information:

Splash Science traveling classroom presentations (3rd-5th grade)

You and your 3rd-5th grade students can learn more about our limited Southern California water supply, West Basin's ocean water desalination research and the marine animals this research is aims to protect.  This traveling program can visit your school and provides three interactive lessons which students will rotate through, including a live marine animal touch tank experience!  This program serves 100 elementary students per visit.  Click on the below links for further program information:

"Water is Life" Student Art Contest

West Basin Municipal Water District’s “Water is Life” student art contest helps foster awareness of water conservation. This project will inspire students to learn about our precious and limited water resources while thinking of creative ways to promote the contest theme, “Water is Life”. The contest is open to 3rd through 12th grade students attending schools located in the West Basin service area. Click here for more info.

2017 Solar Cup Competition

West Basin congratulates its four high school teams that are kicking off the Solar Cup 2017 competition this November!  Teams building their solar powered canoe to race in the world's largest solar boat racing contest include Mira Costa High School, Palos Verdes High School, Environmental Charter High School and Lennox Math, Science and Technology Academy.

The Solar Cup program is an annual education program sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and its member agencies, including West Basin Municipal Water District.


Teach and Test Program West Basin is a proud sponsor of the Surfrider Foundation's Teach and Test program where student volunteers from four local high schools collect water samples and analyze the water quality from our South Bay beaches for one year.
